How to Get Back on Track When You Enjoyed Eating That Extra Portion of…

Sharing is caring!

Sometimes, it’s exhausting trying to stick with my goal to eat healthy every day.

Especially, during the holiday season.

Thanksgiving is this week, and I’ve already fell off the healthy eating wagon with five more weeks to go before this eating frenzy ends.

From festivals to family dinners, there’s always an extra portion of some delicious dish with my name on it.

If we’re not careful, we’ll end the year eight to ten pounds heavier than we were at the beginning of November. Not my goal for the holiday season.

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying the dishes of the season, but we need to be careful. An extra portion here and another portion there can lead to more and more portions which ultimately leads to saying goodbye to all our healthy eating habits.

Here’s how you can stay on track this holiday season…

Never give up on yourself

Keeping a healthy mindset will allow you to focus on your goals and not on your slip-ups.

Just because you enjoyed an extra portion of a holiday dish, does not mean that you need to give up completely on your healthy eating goals.

When you have a healthy mindset about food, you know that you can continue with your health goals and get back on track with your healthy eating habits.

Keep your eating in balance. When you know you’ll be offered dishes that you know are not on your plan, then balance out the remainder of your meals to compensate for this time of indulgence.

Choose to healthy foods

Eating healthier does not need to be complicated.

The more you read the more complicated healthy eating seems to be; which leads people to give up sooner than later. Rather than follow a strict set of complicated rules, why not just eat healthy whole foods?

Does that sound too easy?

You’ll be surprised at how simple eating healthy whole, unprocessed foods, will lead to weight loss, more energy and better health. Keeping your eating habits simple is as easy as eating more vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, legumes, and proteins. Cut out the pre-packaged processed foods with harmful chemicals and fuel your body with chemical free fresh foods instead.

Meal planning for health

The first step toward eating healthier is planning the meals you’ll eat. This includes every meal; breakfast, lunch, dinner, and the snacks in between.

Take time to plan your menu, make a grocery list, go grocery shopping, and then come home and meal prep for the week ahead. This not only keeps you on track with your healthy eating plan but saves you time during the week when life is too busy to cook.

Be prepared for the unexpected

Being prepared for those unexpected hunger attacks, while you’re out and about, will help you stay on track with your eating healthy plan.

Whether you’re out shopping or traveling, your best plan of action is to always have a healthy snack on hand. Always keep a small bag of nuts and seeds on hand for those unexpected moments. Pack a small healthy snack and a water bottle for those times when you’ll be out for the afternoon. Being prepared is your first line of defense against choosing a fast-food option.

Creating health happens when you enjoy a balanced healthy life. This includes eating healthy whole foods and keeping a healthy mindset about food.

When you have a healthy mindset, you understand that you can enjoy the foods you eat, that you can eat that extra portion, in moderation of course, and that each day is a new day in your journey toward a healthier you.
