Brain Fog

5 Ways You Can Overcome Brain Fog Starting Today

Sharing is caring!

Are you struggling with any of the following?

  • Lack of concentration
  • Inability to make decisions
  • Frequent headaches
  • Trouble finding words
  • Feelings of confusion
  • Trouble processing information

If you are, then you may have brain fog.

Brain fog is defined as a temporary state of diminished mental capacity marked by inability to concentrate or reason clearly.

Many people struggle with brain fog on a day to day basis. You may be one of them. When talking with clients, we’ll look at different aspects of their life and it is evident why they suffer from brain fog.

Brain fog is caused from a combination of factors that range from a nutrient deficiency, lack of proper sleep, ingesting an abundance of sugar, a thyroid condition, or even depression. Inactivity and chronic stress can also unleash brain fog, so there are many factors at play that could be the cause of brain fog.

Living with brain fog can create more stress in your life, which leads to so many health problems.

Here are a few ways to help you overcome brain fog.

Intermittent fasting

Intermittent fasting is a method of eating where you would eat during a set window of time and fast for the remainder of the time. A popular intermittent fasting method is the 16:8 method. You would fast for 16 hours and eat all your meals during the 8-hour window. For example, you would eat all your meals by 7 p.m. and not eat again until the next day at 11 a.m.

Intermittent fasting has shown to improve a person’s brain function.

Choose two days of the week to intermittently fast, not two back to back days. I personally fast one day per week, with a 16-hour window for my fast. My kitchen closes at 7 p.m. daily and I don’t eat breakfast until 7:30 or 8:00 a.m. each day, so I have a 12-hour window each day.

Practice with your eating schedule to see how you benefit from intermittent fasting.

Get up and move

Do you spend your day sitting and staring at a computer?

So many of us have jobs that keep us from getting up and moving throughout the day.

What I’ve discovered is that I feel energized if I will get up and walk for at least 10 minutes a few times a day.

When I’m working at home and the weather is nice, I’ll take a trip outside and walk. If the weather isn’t nice, I’ll walk around the house for 10 minutes. I also have a desk cycle under my desk that keeps me peddling all day long.

Here’s a tip I learned recently, schedule your work into ninety-minute increments and take a 10-minute break every twenty minutes. Get up, stretch, walk, anything to get your blood moving.

Your energy will increase, and your brain fog will be lifted.

Go to bed and sleep

Sleep is such a critical part of a healthy routine.

Your brain must have sleep to rejuvenate itself from the daily overload of life.

Set a time to let you know when it’s time to go to bed. Turn off your electronics at least thirty minutes before your bedtime. Allow your body and mind to wind down from the day’s activities. Drink some sleepy time tea.

Anything to help you fall asleep and stay asleep.

Meditation

Is your mind in overload day after day?

Most of live in constant motion and our thoughts are in a whirlwind all day long. When we do finally go to bed, we can’t go to sleep for all the noise in our head.

Learning how to use mediation to quiet the noise in your head can be a challenge when you first get started; but your mind will flourish when you begin this simple little practice.

Let me encourage you to begin with 10-minutes a day. Shut everything off, find a nice quiet comfortable area and rest your mind. No thinking allowed.

Not sure you could survive the silence, then try one of the many meditation apps that are available to help you zone out and relax.

Feed your brain

What you eat truly matters and your brain requires nutritious healthy foods to function correctly.

When planning your meals, look for foods that nourish your brain as well as your body. Foods with omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, rich in vitamins and minerals should be on your plate every day.

For a quick brain boost, add a teaspoon of MCT oil to your morning coffee a couple of times a week. MCT oil is loaded with brain healthy nutrients.

Brain fog can be debilitating when you live with it day after day. Often, we don’t realize what is wrong, we just know something isn’t right.

If you’re struggling with any of the symptoms I listed at the beginning, then choose one or more of these tips to help you overcome your brain fog. There is no reason for you to continue to suffer after today.
